Important railway stations in Prague

Prague has two mainline train stations, Praha hlavní nádrazí, (the main train station) and Praha Holesovice, 2 km north.

Most international trains arrive at Praha Hlavní nádrazí (Open 03:00 - 01:00) The two-level train station hall is set below the highway. Tourist Information: There is a tourist office in the centre of the lower level hall. Open 09:00 - 19:00, Sat, Sun 09:00 - 16:00. Changing currency: There are numerous currency exchanges in the train station but rates are not the best; just change that essential minimum. There is an ATM inside the train information office on the far left side of the lower level hall when coming from the tracks. To call home, buy a phone card at the Tabák (news stand). Getting to town: you are pretty much in the centre of town. There are taxi ranks on either side of the upper hall. However, it is much cheaper to take the metro. The Hlavní nádrazí metro station is just below the main hall, from where it is one stop to the Muzeum metro stop in the centre of town. For those who want to walk, turn left after leaving the main hall and go straight along Washingtonova until you reach the top of Wenceslas Square (Václavské námestí).

Praha Holesovice is three stops from the main train station on metro C (red). On your way out of the station turn left just before the main entrance and take steps down to the metro. To get to the trams walk through the metro station to the other side. To get to Mustek take the metro to Muzeum and then change to line A (Green). Or you can take tram 14 to Wenceslas Square.

Prague's airport is in the Ruzyne quarter in north-west Prague, around 20km from Old Town.

To get to the airport by public transport, take the metro to Dejvická, follow the signs 'Letiste Ruzyne Airport' which will lead you to bus N°119, which run every 8 - 10 minutes between 04:55 and 00:18 from here to the airport. Depending on traffic, the bus will bring you in 20 minutes to the airport. Tickets cost CZK12 and can be purchased from the newspaper stand or the machine in front of the terminal.

There is also a microbus to the airport, which depart from Námestí Republiky every hour starting from 06:00 - 21:00. The cost is 90Kc, which includes baggage. Children under ten ride for free. You must be over 18 to drive a car in the Czech Republic and carry your driving licence at all times, along with a vehicle registration card, an ownership certificate or rental agreement. Most foreign driving licences are honoured, including Canadian, US and EU ones. New Zealand and Australian drivers should have an international driving licence.
